It’s that time again – Summer holiday season! Ok, who am I kidding, I’ve not been on a proper ‘lie on a sun lounger and read romance novels all day’ kinda holiday for years. I’ve been too busy zipping around on cultural, but fully exhausting city breaks. But finally I think it’s about time I went on a chilled out trip. I’m not totally keen on beachwear and bikinis, but here’s the things i’ll be making space in my suitcase for this Summer…

Something chambray

Whether it be a dress or a shirt, chambray screams ‘casual drinks in the sunshine’, am I right?  Not only is the material’s classic shade of blue super versatile, but chambray is lighter than denim, making it the perfect for a warmer climate. Unlike denim, it won’t leave you looking and feeling like a hot sweaty mess (well, unless you’re me and are pretty much a hot sweaty mess in any weather over 16 degrees…)

A basket bag

The ultimate summer accessory. Nothing says ‘I’m ready to frolic around the French Riviera’ like a basket bag that falls somewhere between nautical and Parisian chic. I’ll be making space in my suitcase for this summer’s ‘it’ bag for sure! I’ve got my eye on this one from JCrew and this amazing round one from Etsy.com

A straw boater hat

I think we all know that I’m an advocate for hats but I couldn’t write this post without giving them a shout out. I buy most of my hats (including this boater) from H&M because they do a size small – which btw, is still too big.

Something off-the-shoulder

For sure I’ll be packing a few off-the-shoulder tops to take with me on my summer holiday. They’re flattering, easy to wear, and super versatile – come to think of it, I might need to add another one to my collection.

Block heel sandals

It’s no secret that i’m a short-ass, so naturally I gravitate to shoes that will give me that little bit of height without having to totter (aka stumble) around in heels. Although I spend most of my time on holiday in flats or wandering around in my bare feet, sandals with a block heel are my saviour when I want to dress up a little.

Something red

Ah, the ‘it’ colour of the season. I’ve always been a lover of red, I find that it compliments a pale complexion and blonde hair well, and now that it’s bang on trend there’s plenty of red in the stores to get your fix. I tend to opt for red accessories like cross body bags or shoes and for sure i’ll be packing these fabulous Topshop sandals.

Oversized sunglasses

Oversized sunglasses because they make you look like a celebrity, duh. Just kidding (kinda). No one likes to have to wear heavy makeup on holiday, or even do your hair for that matter, so what should we do? Cover half of our faces with over the top sunglasses of course.
