Alas, September is here! As a crazy coat and hat lady, Autumn is by far my favourite season of the year – to be precise, October is my favourite month but September is a good time to start collecting those A/W staples. The air is crisp, the leaves are golden and its just a well-needed breath of fresh air. I’m so over having to shave (sorry TMI) and fake tan (because I’m as white as a ghost) every day, just on the off-chance thats its actually bare legs weather in the UK.

Every year I end up with numerous new winter coats from the likes of Topshop, Zara and New Look but find that none of them last more than the few months – no one wants a woolly and bobbly coat with the odd button here and there hanging by a threat. So this year, I decided to invest a little bit more in a good quality, smart wool coat. Its a neutral colour and a smart, structured fit which makes it perfect for work and going out in the evening. Spending a little more than i’d normally part with, I wanted something timeless and not trend-based so that I can love it and wear it for years to come.

At this time of year I always tend to go back to the same old uniform – a breton top or a simple shirt, with jeans and black boots or loafers, toppedย with a fedora and a structured coat. Time and time again I’ve tried to experiment and move out of my comfort zone, to try new trends and new shapes but I always end up being back in my skinny jeans, hat and red lipstick. I’ve realised that its okay to have a ‘uniform’, even if its not the latest trend or very ‘out there’ – its my signature style and its what I feel best in.

What is your staple Autumn?
